Health Occupations
The Health Occupations Career Program prepares students for healthcare careers. Students learn about the various careers in the healthcare industry, CPR, first aid, EKG testing, phlebotomy, and Nurse Aide Training.
Thanks to a generous grant from the Ambassador’s Fund for Catholic Education, Mercy Tech recently acquired an Anatomage virtual dissection table. Most often found in universities and medical schools, the Anatomage provides access to hundreds of 3D patient cases and includes life-size cadavers, real-life simulations, clinical procedures and anatomy learning tools. This state-of-the-art technology makes Mercy Tech a top choice high school for students interested in healthcare careers.
Mercy Tech is the only high school in Philadelphia to offer a PA approved Nurse Aide Training Program.
Mercy's program offers more hours than other nurse aide training programs. The extended laboratory practice and clinical exposure ease the transition from high school student to healthcare worker.
The Nurse Aid Training Program is taught in 12th grade and once the students complete their 105 hours of theory, lab practice, and clinical, students qualify to sit for the Pennsylvania Nurse Aide Certification examination.
Upon passing the exam, students are licensed by the State of Pennsylvania to provide care to patients in healthcare fields and can then work for a long-term care facility as part of the Cooperative Education Program.
