Social Studies

Overview

Mercy Tech students complete three years of Social Studies to graduate.

The students will develop a fundamental awareness of World Cultures and United States History based upon the Pennsylvania Standards. We investigate why historical events occurred. To aid the students, we examine the following: cause and effect, relationships of events, people, and decisions.

Mercy Tech's Social Studies curriculum promotes the following skills:

    • Critical Thinking and Decision Making:  Development of critical thinking and sound decision-making in the historical venue.
    • Research:  Students will be able to write a five paragraph essay and answer document-based questions in a proficient manner.
