Exciting news out of Mercy Tech!  We are delighted to announce Mercy Career & Technical High School’s new President,  Howie Brown.

Our search process was rigorous, including interviews with administration, faculty, staff, parents, students, Board members and the Sisters of Mercy, and Howie rose to the top. His enthusiasm for career and technical education, knowledge of high school processes, and prior educational successes proved a powerful combination for Mercy’s mission.

George Matysik ‘99, Chair of the Board of Trustees, said “We are confident Howie Brown is the person to lead Mercy Career & Technical High School into the future. While Howie’s accomplishments are impressive, what stood out is his character and his commitment to serving our unique student body.

This is a pivotal moment for our school, our school, and our country. We believe Howie has the vision and leadership required to open doors and create opportunities for our students, and help build a school environment to prepare them for the future.

We’re incredibly grateful to Sister Susan Walsh, who has served admirably in the role of Acting President since the sudden passing of our longtime, inspirational leader, Sister Rosemary Herron.”

Howie joins Mercy from St. Joe’s Prep, where he has been Admissions Director for the past 9 years and a member of their President’s Leadership Team. There, he had first-hand involvement with tuition revenue, financial aid, advancement initiatives, and relationship-building with feeder schools, donors, parents, and students.

Scheduled to start in late May, he will work alongside Sister Susan Walsh, RSM, who has been acting President since the passing of Sister Rosemary Herron, RSM.

Sister Susan Walsh, RSM commented, “Mr. Brown demonstrated his enthusiasm to join his skills and talents with the strong Mercy tradition of excellence since 1950 and I look forward to working with Howie to help advance Mercy Tech into the future.”

On his new appointment at Mercy Tech, Mr. Brown said, "I'm grateful and excited to be named the next President of Mercy Career & Technical High School.  Mercy Tech has a long history of providing students with a hands-on high school experience to get them ready for life after graduation.  I look forward to working with the faculty, staff, and the entire Mercy community to fulfill the mission of this remarkable institution."

Mr. Brown earned his Masters of Science in Early Childhood and Elementary Education at St. Joseph’s University.  He earned his BA at Syracuse University with a double major in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.

Please give Howie a warm Mercy welcome.
