McAuley Program (Academic Support)

Overview:

The McAuley Learning Support Program offers an academic support structure for students who have specific learning disabilities.  Students in the program receive learning support in the areas of organization, study skills, assignment completion, and test taking.

As a private, Catholic school, Mercy Career & Technical High School does not offer special education services that are mandated in public schools by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).  Furthermore, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) are not developed for students in the McAuley Learning Support Program while they are enrolled at Mercy Tech.  However, any existing accommodations/modifications recommended in IEP’s, 504 Plans, and/or multidisciplinary evaluation reports are implemented in Mercy Tech classrooms whenever possible.  Mercy Tech may recommend reevaluations for select students.  Mercy Tech may also coordinate speech services and academic support outside classes for students as needed.  Parents/guardians agree to encourage and support their children in the completion of assignments and to ensure good attendance, positive behavior, and compliance with school policies.

The mission of the McAuley Learning Support Program is to provide students with special learning strategies so they will become more successful throughout their high school education.  Some students may leave the McAuley Learning Support Program while enrolled at Mercy Tech based upon review of academic performance.  Such a decision will be made by the Principal and the Learning Support Services Coordinator after careful consideration and consultation with faculty on a case by case basis.

The mission of the McAuley program is to provide students with special learning strategies so they will become more successful throughout their high school education. There may come a time when a student has utilized the services offered and is able to move out  of the McAuley Program. Upon review of students’ performance, the Director of the McAuley Program, the Learning Support Services Coordinator, and Administration will determine the appropriate academic group placement for a McAuley student.
