Annual Events
Change Drive: In the spirit of Catherine McAuley, coins and money are collected in homerooms to fund outreach service projects for those in need. Much of this money is used especially for Winterfest. (starts on Mercy Day in September and goes until Halloween)
Thanksgiving Basket Drive: Homerooms work together to gather the items needed for a complete Thanksgiving meal. These meals are donated to Mercy families in need and local community organizations. (November)
Winterfest: Approximately seventy-five young people, all with special physical and mental challenges, come to Mercy Career & Technical High School "Mercy CTE" for a day-long festival of games, prizes, live entertainment, food, and companionship. Each visitor is accompanied by a “buddy,” a student from Mercy or another collaborating school. (February)
Food Drive: Homerooms compete in the collection of non-perishable food which is used to stock local food banks. (March)
Martin Luther King Day of Service: In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., students volunteer to give a morning of service at Mercy CTE by cleaning, organizing, and helping the faculty. (February)
Operation Katrina – This is a hands-on service learning trip that begun after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. For six years, Mercy students and faculty helped in the Gulf Coast area to rebuild after the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina. In this spirit, the mission of this trip has become to help in areas where there has been destruction caused by a natural disaster. This trip is only open to juniors and seniors.
